Ash Picnic Shelter
Community
We are partnering with the City of Billings, and West Hight to Design and Build Picnic structures for Billings Parks from blighted Ash Trees.
The Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) is a destructive invasive species that has devastated ash trees across North America .In response, the Billings Parks and Recreation (PRPL) department is taking a proactive approach to mitigate the effects of the EAB. Their strategy includes the removal of ash trees from the urban forest with the goal of reducing the ash population to under 10% within the next three years, removing 335 ash trees annually. In an innovative effort to turn this challenge into an opportunity, students from West High School will be involved in creating modular shade structures from the wood of the removed ash trees.
